Peter Bennett's Book

"Recollections of SLOUGH SECONDARY SCHOOL and THE OLD PALUDIANS as remembered by Peter Bennett and others"
Written by Peter Bennett (1930-1936), this book was published in March 2000 in time for the 2000 Reunion to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the founding of the Old Paludians.

A number of Old Paludians put pen to paper with their memories for Slough Grammar School's Sixty Glorious Years Exhibition in 1996 and it was the idea of Peter Bennett and the Committee to expand these into a book. It is in three sections: firstly, memories of the forerunner of today's School, followed by the story of the Old Paludians Association and lastly, highly personal recollections of some of the members themselves. Together, these form part of the social history of the times - there were the horrors of the two World Wars, the split of the Old Paludians into 'boys' and 'girls' sections, seemingly forever, and then the gradual coming together again. Now, as we have passed the Year 2000, the Association continues to grow; former pupils of all ages remember their schooldays with nostalgia and friendships forged long ago are still flourishing or being renewed.

..it's funny.. ..it's poignant.. ..it will make you think.. ..and remember.. !

The book has a soft cover and contains many black & white photographs.

The price is:
£ 5.50 for personal collections from the Secretary or Chairman
£ 7.00 for UK delivery orders (£5.50 plus £1.50 UK post & packing)
£10.50 for Overseas delivery orders (£5.50 plus £5.00 airmail postage)

For those who are able to download, this book is available for free at our OPA webpage.

CDROM

Old Paludians Association CDROM cover

With permission from the original photograph copyright holders, we have produced a CDROM copy of our website. This contains all the webpages and photographs featured on the production date, but avoids any downloading across the Internet. The illustration shows the date '23 March 2002', but the actual CDROM production date will be after the order date. The CDROM will run from most Windows PCs with a CDROM drive and an installed web browser (e.g. Firefox or MS Internet Explorer). Being read-only, the CDROM is necessarily a fixed copy of the website as at the production date. The website obviously continues to develop and evolve.

Due to technical difficulties with the new photo website, the CDROM offer is currently suspended until further notice. The latest information may be obtained from our Webmasters.

School Ties

School ties (clothing) - Several Old Paludians have expressed interest in obtaining school ties. At Reunion 2006, Mrs Lenton indicated that the School has recently changed clothing suppliers, but that she will make available contact details for Old Paludians to obtain ties from the authorised supplier. We will post details, including pricings, here as soon as we have them.

Please contact the Secretary to express your interest.

School Photographs

(School & Class photos)

Subject to copyright permissions, we are investigating the possibility of producing and selling high quality reprints taken from surviving old School photos. We believe that none of the older photographs have surviving negatives. So, the Association would need to order a 'print run' taken from a master print for a particular photograph. Naturally, this would be subject to sufficient demand or interest. If feasible, details will follow here in due course.

Please contact the Secretary to express your interest in particular photographs.
